Mud flaps

Ok so I just got a fix it ticket for mud flaps from chp today. I was hoping to get some pictures of some quick disconnect style mud flaps. Not the flap it self I know what they look like.
but where it's mounted and what is used for the retainer or pin to allow it to be taken off and put back on

First off, " welcome to the club" Teraflex should have a pic of them and the quick disconnect pin. They just bolt to the frame and you can see the pin in the pic.

Yep, just like Paisano runs, I use the Teraflex quick disconnects for my runs into Cali and Utah. Here are some old shots of mine

Yep, it belongs to Tim Colty from Nitto Tire. You may recognize Tim from 2012 Ultimate Adventure with Mel when they ran the Vengeance JK build in it, and he was also a part of the 2012 JKX. It's a really sweet Ranger too :thumb: Those photos are from some off road show, our rigs were in the Nitto booth.

Edit; someone here on the forum took the photos, maybe 10Frank9??? I can't remember.

I keep my mud flaps in the back just in case I am pulled over. If I am ever pulled over I plan to use the excuse, “OH, I forgot to put them back on”! :brows: Think it will work? :thinking:

For those of you that have these mud flaps, have any ripped off during normal driving. I had a similar set after getting a ticket in Temecula on my old truck (Chevy 2500HD w/ 42" super swampers) and I ripped off two sets. The fix ended up cutting aluminum and painting them black, to use as the actual flaps.

After awhile the rubber starts to crack next to the arm. The swinging motion doesn't help. I had one crack and fall off. Since I wasn't on the road I was able to see it and pick it up. I just trimmed it a little and reattached it. I did the same to the other flap, it was about ready to fall off also.

Here is what I came up with. Basically homemade copy of the teraflex flaps. Makes my jeep look like it has a mullet.

Like Moochie said, they start to rip at the arm. I'm due for a new set because of the tearing and I never run mine, I think I'm going to hit the truck stop and pick up "mud flap trucker chick" versions ;)

Fortunately I hardly ever run mine, I keep them in the jeep for trips into Californa and Utah in case of a stop by the PoPo. I have yet to see mud flaps actually compliment anything they are installed on, so you are not alone.
 
What I did was get some actual tractor trailer mud flap brackets and install them. Regular truck mudflaps, cut in half to 12" wide. Nothing aluminum to crack or weaken. HD cast brackets. Cost less than $48 for the complete set.

I used a factory threaded hold for one of the bolts then drilled a 2nd hole for the 2nd bolt.

They're mud flaps, they do the job. Should last forever.

It doesn't matter if you use steel brackets or aluminum (like the Teraflex), it is the rubber flap that cracks, splits and tears as it dries out....not the actual bracket failing.
