As some of you may have noticed in one of our recent pics, we no longer have DRLs installed on our Jeep JT Gladiator. And, the reason for that is, they got completely destroyed on the WAYALIFE New Year's Kick Off run. Or more specifically, our brand new 42's didn't care for them and decided to promptly tear them off. While this wasn't really that big of a deal, it did get me wondering if there was a way to at least install some kind of turn signals back on. Certainly, I'm sure that on coming traffic would appreciate knowing what we were doing and so, here's what I came up with.
Can you see them?
How about now?
Wait, I'll go in even closer...
If you still couldn't see them, that's what I really like about them. These lights are small and virtually disappear in the blackness of the fenders.
As you can see, I simply bolted them onto the old fender support bracket.
Now that I know these work and in this location, I'll most likely clean things up a bit by painting all the white body supports black. Or at least, when it starts to warm up a bit.
Yes, I had thought about using the upper bracket but was concerned that it'd be harder for people to see and as much as this wasn't a perfect solution, mounting them up higher looked kinda off to me. I don't know, I'll have to give it a bit more thought.
So, what's really cool about these things is that in addition to providing a nice bright amber light for turn signals, they also serve as DRLs!
Surprisingly, the white light they put out is pretty damn bright. Definitely brighter than the halos in the headlights.
Here are some closer shots...
I should note that I do have them slightly angled back to follow the leading edge of the fender and that helps people looking from the side to see it a bit too.
Here's what the ambers look like when the turn signals are on.
Shot further back and with the hazards on. Pics really don't do them justice but these were made for motorcycles and the blinking really is quite visible, even from a much greater distance.
The best part about these DRLs is that they only cost $20 and installation was a snap!
Anyway, I hope this thread will be helpful to give other people ideas as to what they can do.
