Magobicon begins

December 17th I picked up a loaded new 2016 Rubicon with the intentions of getting a 2017 hard rock. Well needless to say when the dealership dropped the price $6k on the Rubicon and threw in the LED fog and Headlights for it the Rubicon came home.

So what is the first thing you do with a new Jeep? You go play up in the snow!!!

IMG_2057.jpg

Then you take a stock mandatory flew shot :idontknow:

IMG_2059.jpg

That leaves us at the end of the first weekend with the Jeep with 800 miles on it.

IMG_2048.jpg

Future plans for the Jeep:
6.2/6L80e (when I decide to void my warranty)
10" HP axle set (when I decide 35's are to small opps started there lol)
Redneck Ram assist setup
40" tires because I can
Some sort of lift kind of looking at the Metal Cloak lifts (to undecided)
Roof Rack maybe a lightbar not sure
Roof Tent (my woman wants one bad when I want a trailer lol)
HD tire carrier of some sort
Rear bumper of some sort
CB radio
light up dune whip
Real Beadlocks
Rollcage with 3rd row (will happen sooner than most)

So for the second week of owning the Jeep you do the responsible thing of modding it right? So we started the week off by putting Toyo R/T 35/12.5-17 tires wrapped around XD 127 Bullies. Which required butchering the stock flares the night before.

IMG_2066.jpg

Then the following day my Smittybuilt XRC front bumper, X2O 10k winch, and Bushwacker fenders showed up. Put a Rough Country leveling kit to make up for the weight in the front for the time being.

IMG_2069.jpg

Spent Christmas weekend up in the snow again with it.

So for this last week the last few mods I had ordered are in. I got my Weather Tech mats installed along with what i thought was the most important mod of all. My Condition Zero pistol mount:

IMG_2111.jpg

I have my CCW permit and love wear my handgun sits so I no longer have it digging in my back while driving. I also picked up my LED headlights and fog lights from the dealership over Christmas and got those installed along with my custom grill insert.

IMG_2116.jpg

So starting the New year off we ended up blowing up a power steering pump with under 2,000 miles on the Jeep screwing around tilling up my brothers field around a bonfire.

IMG_2129.jpg

IMG_2128.jpg

So now the Jeep is sitting at the dealership for warranty work so hoping to get it back in the next few days as I start planning out my power steering upgrades to prevent blowing the vanes off of the pump so easily in the future.

Is that a Kimber or Sig1911 that your rocking?

Your Jeep is looking good. Kinda looks like you got hit by a shit truck.

That's the out come of a roost fest with a power stroke lol. My brother made the mistake of having to get out and lock his hubs when he went over his leach field leaving his drivers door open leading to the inside of his truck looking like the Jeep. :cheesy:

That would be a Smith and Wesson concealed carry 5" pro shop tuned 1911 probably one of the best fitting tightest shooting guns I've had a pleasure of shooting with no tuning. Nothing against Kimber but they aren't what they used to be. Never really got on the Sig band wagon even though my girlfriend swears by hers.

Seeing future 40" tires on your build list and as someone who has a MetalCloak lift (the 3.5" GC Lite kit), I would advise you to go a different direction. I would probably look at coilovers f/r and adjustable lower control arms for the front axle only as your starting point. The difference out there isn't so much the arms themselves as the joints. I can't personally speak to the bad of MC joints. I've had mine on for over 2 years with no maintenance and they've held up for me, but knowing what I know now, I would prefer Currie johnny joints instead.

I never ruled out coilovers. Just saw a lot of great reviews on the Metal Cloak stuff. What aren't you happy about with your lift? Nice thing about blowing the budget early on is it gives me plenty of time to prioritize what happens next and save for it. I'm one of those gluten for punishment people because I've always daily drove my wheelers not so much because I had to more than wanted to which all ran 37-44" tires of sorts. I've been down the cheep shit lifts and won't do that again. Part of why 35's only got put on was just to hold the temptation out of going full retard on tire size without getting the axles and suspension figured out first.

Joints are always a touchy subject depending on message boards. Part of the 40" tire is for pavement since there is a set of 42" swamper bias plys new in the garage on 24 bolt military beadlocks just chilling lol. I have even thought about doing a custom fab lift with coilovers but with so many bolt on available for these things I figured I would fully research every option available and gather as much input on them as I can. Would only rather spend the money once.

Doing the research and spending your money once is a good idea. I went super fast on my first build and found that once I was more informed I regretted the direction I took. I've been fortunate enough to work on a 2nd build and I've been a lot happier with the outcome. Congratulations on the new Jeep! It's awesome that you and your family are already enjoying it! Building up a new Jeep the way you want it is a ton of fun! Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

Maybe the dealership will wash it for you!🤞

As a Canadian, I have to ask: Aren't you scared about what could happen getting pulled over and having your handgun there?

I would rather they didn't wash it lol. Not worried at all because I have a permit that allows me to conceal it and that leaves it easily enough for any officer to see.

I know most bash Smittybuilt products but the bumper was about the only decent looking thing I could find that used my LED factory fogs. Didn't want to spend more on aftermarket lights atm. The winch is better than no winch and we have beat the snot out of a few of these with no issues. I almost bought a Zeon but time will tell when this one dies. I went for fast practicality since I do wheel alone a lot which I know is frowned on but better to be prepared than not wheel.

Cool, please don't get me wrong I'm not bashing anything you've done just sharing my experience. I didn't do my research the first time around and ended up with a crapy lift. The nice thing was after learning a bit more I knew exactly what I wanted the 2nd time around. Your rig is looking good and it's awesome that you're out there enjoying it. [emoji482]

Interesting. We don't have concealed carry laws in Canada. I suppose it's much more common where you're from and police would get used to it, but we just see the videos of police officers walking up to a window, seeing a gun, stepping back and opening up.

One thing I'm not happy about is spending money on control arms that I didn't really need to. I mean, with just 3.5" of lift, front lower ca's would have been fine. Another thing is their progressive rate coils. Just sitting on flat pavement, probably 1/4 of my coil is fully bound up. Now, I understand that it leaves some room for droop when it's flexed out, but it doesn't leave much spring for potholes and road movement. All-in-all, I find the ride a bit harsh on the road, but I can't say if that's the springs, the OME shocks or the combination of the two. And lastly, they include 2 adjustable track bars, when all they really needed to do was to give you track bar relocation brackets f/r. Again, money wasted IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I could have done much worse and found a lift kit that rode like shit right out of the box. I just think for the money spent, I could have done better.

The internet does tend to reflect just the best of the best and the worst of the worst. Plenty of traffic stops each day happen without incident, gun or no.

Part of being a responsible gun owner is making the officer well aware there is a gun before he gets to close to the window. I've never had an issue with being pulled over and most times we end up talking about guns.

That is a good bit of information. i have read similar responses with that lift and OME shocks. I had intended for their 6 pak shocks but then again it is half the cost of a coil over setup from EVO. All kits tend to have crap you don't need or want to upgrade from the beginning.
