Lube locker

Hi Guys,

I'm going to get my gears replaced soon and I'm thinking of getting lube locker for my D44's. Or should I just go with the traditional gasket seal?

I prefer to use Permatex The Right Stuff. Comes in a cheese whiz like dispenser and is about the best gasket you can use. Tough and hard to break free.

+2 on "the right stuff" this stuff is combat proven... Can tell you from personal experience. You will not be disapointed

Since its hard to take off. Do you have to grid the gasket residue off? I did notice gasket remover......Didn't know such a thing existed!!!

You could try it and let me know how it works. I have never used it. Use a razor to get most of it off then a stiff 3m pad and some brake clean.

If you want an excuse to buy tools My recomendation is a Rt angle die grinder with a "cookie" pad, Cookie is not the official name, but I never called them anything else and cant remember the name.

Would you use this only on your diff only or could you use this stuff say on your transmission pan or oil pan? Or a softer compound would be used to seal?

Any where a gasket is used this stuff is priceless.... besides the obvious, IE head gaskets, exhaust gaskets and such...

I have used a Lubelocker on my diffs for 3 years and have had them off 5 times with no leaks. Grade 8 bolts and the correct torque!

Lubelocker. I have then on both of my Jeeps. I do change the fluids every 15000 miles. It is nice to unbolt it, wipe the gasket off, clean the inside, and bolt it back on. I used to be a mechanic, so I like to make things easy on myself. RTV does work well, I just don't like scraping.

Lubelockers are reusable?

Yes Sir.... 20-25 bucks, they should be good for life.... For me once every 15-20 thousand miles.... Some rtv is fine. If you pull your diff covers more often; then it may be worth it...

Can you re-use the lube locker? Got my front diff off and going to fill with synthetic fluid and noticed the seal wasn't the same when I installed it.....

EDIT:

Didn't notice the posting above this one!!!!

Well, that is the point of a lube locker. Tell you one thing, my Right Stuff RTV is always in the same position as when I installed it. :D
