Caught the Bug
So in the market for a new bumper tire carrier and came across two choices the normal bumper latch carrier ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1459404826.874246.jpg
And the tailgate swing out carrier ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1459404890.151447.jpg would be awesome to just have one latch to open. But want to here back any comments or suggestions. If your running either one would love to here some feedback. Also would the original carrier be stronger then the tailgate mounted carrier? Thanks guys!
 
I've used both and prefer the latch. The gate mount seemed to operate a little strange to me but it could have been some lack of fine tuning by the owner. Plus, I'm pretty sure you can only put tanks on one side (passenger) of the gate mount system.

I run the latch style and have had no issues. It seems to be very secure and swings away smoothly. I have a 37in tire mounted to it and it handles it just fine. (Red jeep in background)
 
I've ran both the latch and currently the tailgate swing out style. Both have been great. The tailgate style is a bit heavy to open & close. If I ran it again I'd probably go back to the latch. It's true that the tailgate style can have a passenger gas canisters attachment. While it's possible to add one on the driver side it doesn't make sense because it's in the way. Where as the latch style can run attachments on both sides with no issue. The tailgate style doesn't rattle and is slightly more convenient if you open the back a lot. Such as, loading groceries etc.

Mine is new, been on the jeep about a week... still trying to hunt down rattles and adjust everything right, but I like it! 37" spare

Pics are also showing up on my IPad .......Great timing Clifford33.....looking at the same set up for mine later in April 樂 already leaning towards the door link version...also debating between standard black texture coated or the zinc enriched finish....is the extra coin for the zinc coating worth the added expense?

I have the latch style and its great. The latch actually broke and LoD sent me a new one no questions asked. Also while at the dealership they forced it passed the stop and broke it. Ordered a new one from LoD. They explained to me that it is designed to break like that as not to bend the stop pin. If the pin bent there would be no way to fix it and you'd have to buy a whole new carrier assembly. DWiggles-Make sure the little bump stop is contacting the carrier first when you close it. Also I had to reinstall my stock spare tire bumpstops. If not I had a weird rattle when I'd hit potholes or bumps in the road. Clifford I'm in Apple Valley. You're more than welcome to come by and check it out in person to see what you think.

Yeah, I have the factory bumps all snugged up, it only rattles on washboard dirt roads, it does fine on pavement. But I was expecting rattle FREE. I'll get some pics up in my build thread ASAP :thumb:

Yeah mine did too. The little adjustable bumpstop needs to contact the carrier well before the carrier is fully closed. I think mine contacts it about 3/4-1" before it contacts the factory bumpstops. This compresses the tail gate and holds everything tight. Also due to the spacing on my wheel I had to cut about 1-1.5" off of the spare tire mount in order to get the tire snugged up against the stops.

Yes, I cut the spare tire mount off, squared it out, tig welded it back together; mine had a ever so slight clockwise rotation that was just enough to bother me. I'll mess with the adjustable bumpstop this afternoon. after reading your post, I'm pretty sure mine is too loose.

Yeah that would have bothered me too. I was just able to cut the other end off to shorten it up to allow the tire to contact the stops.
 
I think the zinc is worth it. Also, I strongly suggest not getting the round lights. The only way to get them out is to take the bumper off.
