Locker air line blowing oil

The BAD Influence

Active Member
On a recent trip the air compressor would cycle every 10-12 seconds if I had the rear locker on. I generally turn the locker off as soon as I get over an obstacle. This trip was with a big group, so I was waiting longer times before attempting the climb.
A buddy broke down so while he was getting fixed, I took the opportunity to inspect the rear line. The fitting was lose. I tightened everything up, but as soon as we were back on the trail the compressor would again cycle every few seconds, if the rear locker is activated.
I checked the diff fluid, it's just below the fill level.

If your compressor is cycling frequently you have a leak somewhere. Could be a bad seal in the locker itself allowing fluid to back up into the line.

Spray soapy water at all connections to determine if it is an external leak. Leaks will bubble of coarse.

If you can reach the end of the diff breather hose and hear/feel air coming out of it when locker is engaged, then something inside the differential housing is leaking air.
