LED tail lights upgrade

Holeshot

here I am, in prep to replace my square tail lamps for a pair of 4" truck-lite 24 red LED lights and 2 2 1/2" white back up lamps. I know I will need resistors for tail lamps, but where do I need to wire them? I guess it is to prevent the flashers to flash too fast, so I would need to wire them only on the flasher circuit on both side, right?

And, does anyone has already installed that without corners guard, directly on the factory body? is it possible or not, because I know the square hole for the factory light is high on the body and big for the 4" light?

One side of resistor splices into the red wire and other side splices into the white wire. White is the ground and red is your turn/stop wire. This is done on both sides. You would need to do some significant body work to mount these without corner armor. I have never seen it done but anything is possible i guess

Mounting them on the body directly will not work without filling in the hole from the stock lamps. I saw a few pics recently from a guy who made small corner pieces to cover the factory mounting positions and mount LEDs it came out great. I'll see if I can find them.

Warrior also makes some LEDs that fit into the stock slots. They have brackets that allow you to mount 4" of your choice and then a few style with lights included.

Ok. Found the thread here's a link

You can see in the pics below he allowed for a backup lamp and also removed the stock license plate mount. You could basically do these however you wanted.

Hope this all helps bud.

That link is badass! His turned out awesome! Thanks for sharing that rt. I might do that. Just gives the JK a really refreshing look. Better than giant rectangles hangin off quarter panels.

No problem. The bottom line here is you can't sick a 4" light in a 8" hole with no modding. If you don't want to do any work than waiting for corners is the only option.

Im personally not worried about a little sheet metal work. Small price to pay for a great look. You should know :)

I totally know that :p. The only thing is that if I put corner guards, like the psc crusher corners, I will not waste my time doing a small squared sheet metal like above. It would be working twice for the same result.

Agreed. If you want corners it's easy and more economical to hold off on lighting til you get em:thumb:
