Update on Nightmare Gulch! The OHMVR Division of California Parks & Recreation sent out trail experts to examine Nightmare Gulch. Conclusion is that the trail is sustainable, but does require repairs. California Parks & Recreation is not able to complete any repairs until a Travel Management Plan has been completed for the Red Rock Canyon State Park. We need to make our voices heard that we WANT this travel mgmt. plan completed so repairs may proceed on Nightmare Gulch. We are asking all our members and the OHV community to call the new Sector Superintendent for Tehachapi District, Kathy Weatherman, to voice your concerns. (661) 724-1206 is the number for the Tehachapi Sector. Please call and let her know we want the travel mgmt. plan for Red Rock Canyon State Park completed ASAP so repairs can be made to Nightmare Gulch!! We need at least 20 to 30 individual calls made every month until they move forward with the Travel Mgmt Plan. If we don't make noise no progress will be made!!

This update is from Linda at CORVA bottom line we need to call it's been almost a year since the State closed Nightmare so I am asking for help to make noise about this closure and get this trail open we have a phone number, I thank you in advance for any help and to pass on to your friends

I was running Last Chance Canyon a few weeks ago and discovered that the gulch had been closed. I was quite sad as this trail has been on my bucket list for years.

I copied your post on H4O (Hummer Forum) to encourage more calls and will be making the call myself.

Thanks for sharing this info!

Man, I am so glad that I no longer live in CA. Glad to hear this is moving along and that there's hope to get a fun trail like this re-opened.

Typical California. I bet they spend more money talking about it / making plans about fixing it than it would actually cost to fix it. I will do my part and make the call.

It started with a unlawful trail closure but to open trail legally proper protocol needs to be followed. It has taken about 8 months to get to this point so now we can put some pressure on the state park manager to get ball rolling. So I will be calling Monday.

I called Sector Superintendent for Tehachapi District, Kathy Weatherman, to voice my concerns. (661) 724-1206 it goes to voice mail but please leave a message we need to continue making calls till she starts the repair process.

Called them today and they seemed very interested in comments from 4 wheelers. They said they are planning on reopening Nightmare but only after a final plan is finished. The more comments to them the better!

Hummers? Really? On WAL? What's next?

Update : Russ Dingman (661)724-2380 from Calif State Parks returned my call and gave me the latest news.

1. Looks like a public hearing will be spring 2015.

2. Environmental impact report has been requested and information gathering and forms are being completed.

3. Funding is secured and can not be used for anything else.

There will be a series of public hearings to so we need to be there so other groups not 4X4 friendly can impose there wants.

This process may take a year but the ball is rolling !! so again we must keep calling Russ. Russ is genuine in his effort to complete this process and he admits State Parks has dropped the ball but they are committed to complete this process as quick as possible.

Please call Russ get your email address on data base to receive updates from the State, it also documents how many folks are interested in getting Nightmare Gulch open.

Thx
