LA Fire Roads Question

Caught the Bug
Does anyone in the LA area know of any fire roads near Hollywood that are vehicle accessible? I need to get a few poser pics on dirt but don't know any trails in this area. It has to be somewhere in Hollywood or possibly Griffith Park area.
Any ideas are appreciated!

I don't know of any that directly answer your question. (Too close to civilization for me)

There's a decent number if you're willing to drive 30 minutes further north to the San Gabriel's. Just as many are gated however, so check ahead of time!

If you're in Orange County, couldn't you do Holy Jim or something?

Sounds like you're maybe looking for a scenic overlook? Santa Barbara has a ridge trail with awesome views.

Up in Canyon Country... Sand Canyon Rd -> 3N17 has some fantastic views of the Valley, but you'd have to be there before sunset when they lock the gate.

You could try Griffith Park area and drive around and you might find a nice spot. Or you could go up to Angles Crest and just pull out on a turnout and get a photo with a view from there.

Head up the 15 and run cleghorn great view and a poser rock to park on top of.

Thanks for the heads up. That's a way too far from Hollywood Hills! Actually this is just for a poser shot for a project I am working on in the area. For wheeling, I wouldn't waste my time with Cleghorn. Not enough bang for my gas buck.

Back in the day, there were parts of Mulholland Drive that were all dirt. Don't know if it's still that way but, might be worth giving a look.

10frank9's house? Isn't there a dirt road near it that he wheels on? :idontknow:

I haven't been here, but I know there is a fire road. Are vehicles allowed? Not sure. It's at one end section of mullholland. Pretty cool history though, check out the vid.

Back when I was young, I used to do a lot of mountain biking up there and yeah, you could drive to the top which was all dirt. Don't know if things have changed since then but, it was something you could do.

Curious on the SB ridge trail you mention. Any more details such as start/end points and how best to access?

Sure! It's more of a road than trail. But the view is amaze-balls. And a soak in the hot springs at the end.
Big Caliente Spring Trail
Description: Difficulty: 1, 2 for spur/10; Scenic: 9/10; 10.6 mi, plus 5.6 mi spur; 2.5 hr (one-way); Open: Year-round.

We ended up going to Franklin Canyon Park and shooting some poser stuff in the dirt parking areas … until we were caught by the ranger! I will let you guys know when my WAYALIFE and EVO pimpin’ rig is scheduled to make a cameo appearance on TV!:yup:
