Knock Sensors (and wiring harness)

Well, time to replace the oil cooler housing again. First one went out at 65k and the second went out right on schedule at 130k lol

Since I’m gonna be in there, and since I’m at 130k, I’m thinking of changing the knock sensors as a precautionary repair. My normal approach is to leave well enough alone but since these things are buried under the oil cooler housing, I think it’s best to just replace now.

I see the wiring harness is all one piece and connects to the oil cooler sensors and the knock sensors. I haven’t found any videos of replacing this. It seems simple enough. One clip connection at the end then the other clips for the sensors at the opposite end. Only we are talking about a jeep. I’m not sure if you have to take any more of the engine apart just to get to the main connector clip of this harness. Has anyone done this? Is the main harness connector easily accessible?

Again not one to mess with things that aren’t an issue. But I really don’t want to rip things apart again. And I’ve already read comments on some YouTube videos where people have replaced the oil cooler housing THEN gotten knock sensor codes after it was all put together. Appreciate any tips or thoughts on this.

when I did the oil cooler on my daughter's 2015 jku, I replaced the sensors, the short wire harness and the piece of cooler line (drain the coolant 1st) it wasn't difficult; also did plugs and coils.
shortly after, fuel injectors, but those were easy.
used the Dorman upgraded oil cooler.

When you say the short wire harness…are you taking about the entire harness setup? Or just a piece of it. I’m trying to figure out if the whole harness is easy to access….the main connector of the harness that is. I’d rather swap the whole thing out but before I order it I’m curious if it’s easily accessible.

it's not that large of a harness, to make sure we're talking about the same harmess, similar to this?1731175118127.jpeg

Looks different. Here’s the one I found. https://parts.moparonlineparts.com/...sure-and-temperature-sensor-wiring-68085202ad

As you can see one end is the main connector and the other end splits off into the knock sensor clips as well as the sensors on the oil cooler housing. What I’m trying to figure out is if the main connector for the harness is easy to get to.

It’s easy to get to. I can’t remember exactly where the connector is, but it was easily reachable once the filter housing is out.

I replaced mine out of precaution as well.

Figured sitting submerged in burnt Pentastar oil for 8 months can’t be the best.

Thanks. Agreed. Makes sense to change it while there. Going to do the knock sensors as well. Thinking about the coolant hose as well.
