I have to admit that I'm a big fan of Huell Howser and the myriad of shows that he produces regarding California and all its wonders. And, after seeing a episode where he ventured out to the northeast corner of California, I knew this was a place that I had to visit for myself. Well, on a recent trip we made to visit family up in Chico, WOLette and I decided to take a "long-cut" and, along the way, use the opportunity to visit this amazing Corner of Nowhere.
Unfortunately, there's no direct route or trail to get you out to the northeast corner of California and so, we decided to take a seldom used byway to get us into Oregon and as close to our destination as possible....
After driving for miles on backroads and overgrown trails, we arrived at a point in the State of Oregon that was about a mile and a half from the northeast corner of Calfornia...
Somewhere on the top of this lava flow is where we are wanting to go. With no trail to be found anywhere, our GPS is the only means we have to get us there...
As if hiking through thick brush wasn't bad enough, there was a creek that kept us from making it back to California and so, we had to take off our boots and ford it...
A beautiful lone lavender flower that I found in amongst the dried grasses...
Standing on the border of California and looking back at where we started in Oregon...
After a tough trek through thick mosquito infested brush, across a small creek and a climb up large boulders, I was able to get this screen shot of our GPS showing that we arrived at the Corner of Nowhere...
Here we found a small stone and concrete monument topped off with a large stick to mark this corner...
Posing for a family photo before heading out...
I hope you enjoyed our trip to the Corner of Nowhere
