This write up will be for installing a seat heater in your JK.
I have had one installed in both front seats for about 4 years and my driver seat pads stopped working.
I bought the better model this time around and after testing it, it definatly works better than the older one.
Price was 140 vs 90.

I have had no issues with them at all and would recommend them if u want heated seats.
Heated seats are awesome and once u have em, u will wonder why u didnt sooner.
There great for cooler summer nights with the doors off and of corse in the winter.

Here is the kit. Come with a full harness and all u need to do is power and ground hook up.
I ran mine off the driver side cig plug.
I have had both front seats going and a phone charging on that cig plug and no issues.

This new harness is identical to the old except this one has a fuse.
I did not install this part of the new wiring but I did replace my switch and the control box with the new.

Now u will need a t30 and a t40 torx for the console and the height adjuster.
Remove the 4 console bolts.

Next remove the height adjuster handle.
Next u will need your hook tool... aka rad hose tool, witches finger...
This allows u to remove the plastic fabric retainers around the bottem perimeter of the seat to get to the foam.
Now pull the fabric up.
Using dykes or cutters like knipex cut the hog rigs holding the fabric to the foam.
They attach around rods in the foam and fabric.
I didnt cut the back ones on both sides.

Now like I said I have a heater already installed and thats the white pad.
I chose to remove it and with a razor blade I didnt mess the foam up too bad.

Next u run the wire out the back.
U will now need hog ring pliers and some hog rings.
I got these rings when I worked at the dealer and did tons of heated seat recalls in the wj's so I have alot.
Any upholstery shop will have these.
The pliers are matco.
Reattach working from the back to front the fabric to foam.
Fold the fabric down over the edges and reattach the plastic fabric hold down parts to the seat frame.
The inside by the seatbelt can be troublesome.
Some ppl reomve the seat to do this and while u definitely can, it can be done in the jk.
Next remove the seat tilt handle.
This has a clip to hold it onto the splined shaft. pull up on the clip and the handle will come right off. i renistalled the clip so i didnt loose it, but to reinstall the handle, the handle goes on first then side the clip down.
The back part of the seat only has plastic fabric clip on the bottom holding the front fabric to the back.
There are no hog rings on the back part.
There are two velcro channels that hold the fabric to the seat.
I could get a good pic of this, but once the two fabric parts are separated u pull the fabric forward off the foam and velcro strips.
Slide your seat heater element up and stick to foam. Push down the fabric and route your wire.
I installed my switches here and there in a great spot.
I did this 4 yrs ago so all i did for this write up is install the new switch.
My power comes from the driver side cig plug and its grounded to a self tapper into the brake assy bracket under the console.
Now its time to test and button up the console.
Thats pretty much all there is to it.
I dont recall the hole size for the switch but the company I bought this from sells a bit the exact size u need.
Hope this helps everyone if they try and tackle this not to bad project.

Excellent write-up! Wanted to do this until I decided I need waterproof seat covers. As it will take longer to warm up, I know trekarmor have the option for seat heaters in their covers so i'll go this route instead :thumb:

The kit I first looked at had the pad glued on the foam.. Gonna try to find the website.

Thanks man! Yea the heat pads use adhesive strips. I have had my seats wet and the heaters still work fine.
On a side note being 10 degrees here my seat is warm in about 2 min..
 
Great write up! I tried to get heated seats but couldn't find the perfect package so I sacrificed the heaters.

Yea u would love heated seats. I let my truck warm up for like 5 min when its as cold as it is here, and before I drive away its warm.. then it gets hot! I usually have to turn it on low for a bit because it get so toasty. What I like is it allows u to lower the heat blowing on you from the vents and u still are warm.
They also have a sensor in the bottom pad that senses u sitting on it and turns it on.
Quik chek is approx 2 mi from me.. seat was hot when I got out. Left seat and truck running. Came back and seat was cold, but warmed right up. Another cool feature.

Kind of relate to that, same in Québec City, and sometimes if my JEEP is really cold (-40C) the heated seat don't stay on... lol It's so cold that they quit on me... :mad:
 
or they just turn off after a while. Some manufacturers use timers to turn them off to prevent them from burning or over heating.
 
Ya I know, but not after 5 sec... No way it's automatic... but I don't mind because after 10 min they stay on... lol
