JK 3" suspension questions.

Hey yall,

a few questions, if i was to go with a very complete lift kit such as a full traction 3" ultimate lift kit. what else would be needed to get my rig up on some 35s and wheeling. From the little bit of research that ive done i would also need a double cardin u joint drive shaft. Can anyone explain to me what that actually is and why its needed. and then seeing as i dont have a rubi i plan on detting a dana 44, is that necessary immediately or is that just a nice addition?

the full traction lift kit comes with 3″ taller coils, adjustable lower and upper control arms, adjustable front and rear track bars, bump stop extensions, brake line relocation brackets, new longer sway bar links for the rear and sway bar link disconnects up front for X and Sahara model JK’s.

will all that really be necessary? If so i have no problem paying for it, but for a newbie like me comparing that to an old man emu kit which comes with 3″ OME HD Front Coils3″ OME HD Rear Coils, Front OME LT Shocks, Rear OME LT Shocks, Currie Adjustable Front Upper Control Arms, JKS Adjustable Front Track Bar, JKS Adjustable Rear Track Bar, JKS Front Disconnects, NR4X4 Adjustable Rear Sway Bar Links, Crown Extended Front Stainless Steel Brake Lines, Crown Extended Rear Stainless Steel Brake Lines, TeraFlex Front Bump stop Extensions, TeraFlex Rear Bump stop Extensions, Currie Rear Coil Retainers.

So whats the difference between the two? from what i can tell they consist of more or less the same components, but what makes the full traction kit so much more complete and expensive than the EMU?

is there anything else which is necessary to start wheeling without damaging or rubbing anywhere?

Thanks for any help which you can provide guys, its all a bit confusing at the start!

What exactly does that mean?

C gussets for your axle.

At what size tire does this become an issue a good upgrade?

I'm sure someone else has a better answer. But I can say that I too plan on running 35's on my JKU and I am making sure to get these gussets on before I go to 35's.

im going up to 34's soon and now just hearing this im deffinatly going to make sure i upgrade the gussets! great topic and thread verry helpful!

I would say once you go 33 and up,the wider thread puts more stress on the C's,Do you need them with 33's ,probably not but is a cheap upgrade and won't hurt.
It also depends on how hard you wheel :twocents:

I have a 3" lift with a 1" body lift. 35's no problem on 17x9's. dana 35 up front...running just fine. I wheel x2 a month.

okay so ill definitely get the c gussets, but what about the differences between the lift kits? what makes the old man emu so much cheaper? and will i have to buy on top of it?

I personally think the difference in prices of lifts is what each kit will come with. You are going to pay top dollar for an EVO lift or Rock Krawler because of the quality. EVO and Rock Krawler use American steel for their products and the engineering that goes into them costs big dollars. I run the 3.5" Rock Krawler X Factor. Perfect for what I need and it came with a nice set of Bilsteins. If it was out at the time of my purchase I personally would have gone with the EVO Enforcer. Its another bad ass kit that has some great options like plush ride springs and the option of king shocks. I believe the King 2.5. ( dont quote me). Everything comes down to personal preference, but you need to factor in what you will be doing with your rig. Dont sell yourself short by buying cheap shit, youre going to be out that money when you realize you want to upgrade. Both kits I already mentioned are upgradable. I run a 35" tire and have not had a single issue, but I do plan on Gussetts and axle trusses. I am not changing out axles because I will never go bigger than a 37". I will upgrade my axle shafts and do what I need to protect my investment. There are so many options out there its rediculous. Just do your research and ask questions. Personal preferences of others will be pressed on you, but take that info and run with it. I researched for 6 months before I made my lift choice. I was always lookin at JK-Forum and Project-JK to see what people were running. Sure, there are "popular" kits, but they are popular for a reason. Take your time, its your money. Ask around here, I have not read a single thread hon WAL that was BS. Its all good info and there are many many people here that know what they are talking about.. Though Im a newer Jeeper myself, I have already gained so much knowledge from everyone here. If you have questions you can PM me, if I dont know the answer I will certainly point you in the right direction. Good luck!!
