Hello. So i have pressed on new seals and bearings to my dana 44 axle and now its time to put the axle back into the differential. I am having an issue with the seal or something i cant seem to push the axle back into the diff tube by hand. Should i use a rubber mallet or will i damage the new bearings?

Check to ensure no rust, etc in that area. Did you make sure the new bearings and seals were the same diameter as a double-check? Also, I'm assuming you've tried turning the axle just slightly to ensure splines are lining up?

Gave up and used a load of greese on the seal and hit it in with a hammer. Hopefully didnt brake anything. Tight fit.

I guess it just needed some modivation. I was scared to hit it because i was afraid to damage my nes bearing but it was kinda what needed to be done

On my 04 Rubicon D44 the bearings and seals were pressed onto the axles first, then they slide into the axle housing.
