Installing extra Driving lights

I don't know what the law is concerning extra lights in the US is, but here in South Africa, we have pretty strict rules. A set of spotlights has to be wired through the bright circuit as well as a separate switch so that the spotlights will switch off when dims are selected.
Is it OK to simply splice into the bright headlight wire or could this cause any electrical problems?
This is on a 2011 JK Rubicon.

Years ago I had a set of Hella lights on an H3, those directions had the relay spliced into the brights wire, but the power for the lights was pulled directly from the battery. I would think there would be too much power draw if you just tie it in to the brights directly. The relay did as you described, you could turn the brights on with the additional lights or flip a switch in the cab and just the brights come on.

You can splice in to the high beam wire to trip a relay to turn on auxiliary lighting. That’s how I have a lightbar wired currently and previously had 2 55w lights triggered.

I’ve ran this setup for almost 10 years without issue.
