if you have a problem with one tire do you need to replace 2 or all 4

Currently running Goodyear Silent Armor A/T 285/75R16 tires on a '13 sport. Cut a real small line on the LR sidewall. No problems yet but was wondering to play it safe if I should replace it and if I do should I buy 2 new tires or all 4. Would rather play it safe than having to change a tire. Tires only have 14,500 miles on them and of course Goodyear does not make this size anymore.

Just switch it out with the spare. Saves you money. If you decide to buy, get 2.

So, move your nice tire with the slight cut and make it into your nice spare and still just get one new tire.

Problem is tire dealer states at least 2 new tires should be replaced and preferably 4 because a little 4/32" of an inch can cause long term transfer case problems if tires don't match up. I can't believe a transfer case is that sensitive? Has anyone every herd of this?

Yes. It's more critical on AWD vehicles, but either way, manufacturers require all 4 tires to be within a certain circumference specification of each other. If you're down at 4/32, I would just buy a new set, and upgrade! :D

You'd be fine replacing it with just one tire.
They're not THAT sensitive.
My friend runs a 36" swamper spare with 33's.
He drove it 50km home last weekend when he rolled a bead.
Didn't have any issues.

What WJCO said. Upgrade to 5 new tires & some new sexy 17" wheels. Now you'll be ready for the big brake upgrade! Planning...it's easy when you're spending another man's money! :cheesy:

Who really needs an excuse to upgrade wheels and tires anyway? ;)

I meant to say right now there is a 4/32" difference if I buy one new tire with current tire wear. Thus the tire shop wants to replace at least 2 and recommends all 4. Still seems crazy to me.

It is a bit crazy. AWD has much less tolerance for that, but 4/32 is an eighth of an inch. Do what Eddie said, make that your spare & replace it.
