Help! stranded in Silverthorne CO

If I were up in there, I'd come help out. Might try getting a hold of the Western Slope 4 Wheelers up in Montrose. Someone there should be able to help you out.

Is there a way for you to use a strap or somehow wire the thing together to at least get off the trail?

Found their number in case you couldn't find it. Good luck!

I was with a guy a few weeks ago that broke the same spot in Motino Wash. They used a couple of heavy duty ratchet straps wrapped right and drove maybe twenty miles to get it welded. Good luck.

Try "South Park 4x4" I think that club is based there.

Thanks, guys! Remarkably, I'm in a parking lot in Silverthorne. Crazy that the full break didn't manifest itself until I drove out of the hotel parking lot. Pretty crazy. Just need someone to weld up for the drive home.

Would gussets or something else have reinforced this? Really didn't drive it that hard. http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=377

The track bar relocation bracket you have installed is junk and is the cause of your break. You really need something that's reinforced and or welded on like an EVO, AEV or even Currie bracket.

That's what I needed to know. Don't know what brand it is. It was installed by the previous owner.

At a glance, it looks like maybe a Fabtech or Skyjacker bracket. Either way, they are well known for acting like a lever and tearing off factory track bar mounts. The added benefit of getting an EVO or AEV bracket is that it'll allow you to install a drag link flip at the same time. You would then be able to get rid of your dropped pitman arm.

Skyjacker, probably. Lots of red and white under there. Why would I want to replace Pitman?

Thanks for the education... Inconvenient and pricey aside.

Now to book a hotel....

It's not required but, installing a drag link flip would get it up a bit higher off the ground and running a stock pitman arm would provide less leverage on your sector shaft.

Man I wish I had known. We were on the trail today and just got back. I had my welder with me. You weren't that far from us at that time. Did you get it welded yet?

The JKS weld on bracket is also a good choice, it wraps around the back of the axle and also reinforces the upper arm bracket. There is a hole to raise the trackbar to if you flip your steering. I welded the front and rear braces on and they are heavy duty IMO.

Thanks everyone. Back on the road. Welded by Cooks welding in Silverthorne. I'll be in the back country tonight around Leadville or Twin lakes. Headed home tomorrow. Then I'll figure out what's next.
