Greasing

Just got a grease gun so I can do some more my own maintenance on my jk...i know when greasing joints with boots like my tierod and drag link to fill until the boot begins to buldge a little. But for my adams 1350 driveshafts, how much grease do I put in the slip zerk? How do I tell when its good enough? And how about the other spots like the one hidden in the double cardan section? Am I looking for some sort of sign thats its properly filled or just give it a couple pumps and call it good? Thanks guys...

I normally put a pump or 2 in the double cardan with a needle adapter and hit the zerks until I see it reach the small hole inside the joint. The excess is blown out after the first drive. Gets all over but I can wipe it down pretty quick with a shop paper towel.

When greasing a ujoint, once it's full, one of the caps will start to have grease oozing out of the seam. That's how I've always done it.

I was wondering the same thing about Johnny joints. Some joints fight the grease gun and won’t take any grease. Others take plenty and it oozes out and I wonder if that’s good or bad. And other joints like the lower control arms I can’t reach whiteout dropping the arm so I never grease them. I bought a needle adapter for my LockNLube and was going to try that next.

A couple people here have found that the grease fitting bottoms out and won't let the grease move through it. So by loosening the fitting a turn or two, the joint then takes grease.

I’ve had the same problem but it was my grease gun tip. Grabbed a new one and it’s better, but also have had to loosen a couple zerks.

FLCA can be greased more easily with a mod or two, even on factory axles. Check this out...

I couldn’t find that post awhile back, what’s the name of that aftermarket fitting for the gun the clamps down better on the zerk?

I’m going to try and loosen the few zerks I’m having problems with. Sounds like that’s my problem.

Whoa... Thank you for the link. Looks like I’ll be drilling some holes next weekend.

Glad to help! I did it on my D30 and installed the low profile zerks. So much nicer than dropping them every time.
