Gear oil royal purple WTF

I just read something on Jerseys post where it said you could use Dino gear oil. Just not sure what the Dino stands for.

Dino is just regular gear oil. It's all you really need unless you're running a limited slip differential. Synthetic comes with friction modifier and should be used if you're running a limited slip diff.

Lol thanks for clarifying the Dino . I should have clarified the other info I got because that was your explanation on his post. Sorry you had to write it again.

LOL!! It's all good. "Dino" is as in "dinosaur" as in, just natural fossil oil as opposed to synthetic :D

Still a hell of a lot more expensive than dino and not really necessary.

Maybe in your area, but here, it is alot less than RP. Though Dino ain't cheap here!

Last time I recall seeing RP, it was 3x dino. RL was only double :)

Depends on your application and some just like synthetic.

My t-case calls for 75-90 GL4 synthetic. The diffs get dino.

YMMV

Oh, I think you misunderstood me, I am not an advocate for Royal Purple - way too expensive and totally not worth it to me. For a transmission, I wouldn't use standard gear oil, just what is recommended by the manufacturer whether it be syncromesh or even Red Line. For the diffs, what I believe the OP was asking about, dino works just fine. :yup:

Yeah I just priced it, that's not much cheaper. But I do appreciate the input. I will admit that in my 6.0 L engine I switched to synthetic motor oil and it did get rid of a little valve tap. I'm not sure what it did for the friction but it helped.

You're motor and diff are two different things. I have seen benefits of running synthetic in the motor.

I can't say I knew it would help, it was more an educated guess . I'm not sure if its true but somebody told me that synthetic wasn't good for some motors .( I don't know emoticon ).

RP is like water, runny as a mofo(over priced crap), run reg dino gear oil and you'll be fine.
