Gear oil dilemma

Starting to feel the woes of the RockJocks. Ok,there! I said it!
I honestly don't know what Currie was smoking the day they designed their diffs without a drain plug. So, the dilemma is how to successfully drain and replace the gear oil in them. I originally bought a hand pump that looks like a giant syringe but I'm pretty sure I'd be there all day with it. But, I stumbled across a picture of a drill operated pump and I'm curious if anyone knows if it would be possible to pump used, runny gear oil with one. Keep in mind that it's summer time and temps at my house have been over 90 degrees so the oil isn't cold or new. Here's a pic of the pump style I'm thinking of. Pull the cover and drill and tap a hole for a drain plug.. or get a new Diff cover..???

That pump looks pretty cool. If it's not too expensive you could buy one and see if it works well. They don't list specs on it?

For the cost of a RockJock you'd think they'd put a drain plug.

Drilling and tapping the diff cover won't work as the covers on the RockJocks are tipped backward at about 45deg unlike a traditional diff that is fairly straight up and down.

Got ya! You have the RJ-60s So that also eliminates also adding an aftermarket cover I guess.

Just yank the axle out and add a proper drain hole in the pumpkin... lol ;)

How much was the drill pump?

Front would be tough due to the dimple it has for the tierod. The pump is cheap, $20 which isn't an issue at all. Was just curious if a pump like that would handle the oil.

Check a marine supplier like West Marine for a kit.

There are multiple styles of marine oil and lube change kits available. Some manual, some electric. Standard stuff for boats.

There is only 2-3 quarts in them axles it wont take much over 10 min mabey each axle. You dont have to get all of the old out it wont hurt anything. Or pull the inspection cover still gotta use the pump and make sure your internals are ok while your in there. Prevetative maintiance is a good way to save $$.

i would agree with this. a lot of inboard motors and I/O motors are hard to work on so you need special pumps for oil. deff check out west marine.
