So I like to run some trails with my 2010 Unlimited for which I spend the next day washing and cleaning all the crappy gritty sandy dirt out of places. This dirt holds moisture and rots metal from the inside out (Trust me, I have a 92 YJ which sits in storage waiting for me to begin replacing the frame and everything metal on it). I decided my fuel tank skid plate was taking some pretty good hits and making me nervous, so I purchased the Rock Hard skid plate. I already had the transmission and oil pan plates and like them a lot. The problem with the fuel take plate is it is designed to simply bolt over top of the original skid...more places to hold gunk and continue to rust. I decided to drop the factory plate and modify it so I can clean it better. To my surprise, this thing had quite a bit of rot between it and the fuel tank...and was sitting in wet dirt. It is well worth the time, if you are adding this plate to your rig, to take the couple days work and modify the original plate. It is a dirty nasty job of cleaning and painting the part which you are keeping, but is worth it. Now I can simply drop 4 bolts and get a good flush of the crap loitering between the metal and the tank. It is OK if you think I'm nuts.
Sorry for the last two pictures...they are upside down. You will have to rotate your monitor to see them correctly. I don't know how to rotate them on this post.
