Dusy Ershim toilet construction update

East Lake now has a toilet. I went in a couple days early and dug the hole(jackhammer is in the wooden box).
This was done the last weekend in October.

There was a mess of roots.

Ran into rocks and had to scoot the hole over.

Supported the roof with 4X4 posts because of the fascia cracking on some facilities.

Installing roofing.

Built a table too.

This has happened to three of our toilets on other trails, probably due to snow load.

This is how the problem was addressed on two toilets(so far)on Dusy before the problem arises, we're hoping this will prevent it from happening.

Installed the last toilet at Mallard Lake, this one was largely funded by a single trail user and his wife.

The prefabbed facility was picked up from the Forest Service work center by one trailer and taken to the trailhead, then it was distributed one wall per trailer.

Volunteers dug a hole half way down and ran into 3 big rocks, then Forest Service showed up and dug a new hole.

Putting in the bolts that hold the corners together.

Getting ready to repair a wall that was damaged on the way in.

Holding the front wall in place while it gets attached.

Shimming before tightening the bolts.

Installing hurricane ties.

Installing windows.

Installing drip edges.

Installing wire to keep marmots out. We usually use a heavier wire, but this was brought by mistake. It will be replaced with heavier wire later.

Putting the right blade on.

Cutting the hole for the louvered vent.

Installing roofing.

Painting front posts.

Touch up painting a spot that was damaged on the way in.

Finished.

The crew.

The photographer.

The cook.

Location, looking Southbound.

Location, Northbound.

The carnage.

A group from Washington State was happy to provide a replacement box they had with them.

Thanks, been a long process. We still want one at Lakecamp, but we have no more prefabbed. Also the Forest Service had resisted putting one there in the past, rumors are they are warming up to the idea now.

So you still just here to pimp what your club does?

are kidding? they do good work in preserving our trails, and dedicate their time and resources to keep the trails open. Their club provides value to the trail system unlike this site, and your going to give him a hard time? I have never even seen a thread about a clean up run on this whole site. most people here just use the land and trails and dont give back.

He's ONLY here to pimp his club and nothing more. You don't have to be part of a club to give back.

Just wanted to say thanks. Those toilets are really nice to have on the dusy. We stayed at ershim lake for a couple of days. The toilets made it much more comfortable. Keep up the good work!!!
