dana44 axle swap--from X to Rubi

Caught the Bug
Due to the high prices shops want for regearing in NM, I decided to buy a slightly used Rubi axle for my X. This gave me three upgrades: gearing 5.13, elocker, and chromoly shafts. I purchased a few months ago and swapped out in my driveway yesterday with the help of a good friend. It took us about 7.5 hours. We took our time, used hand tools and floor jacks. First time either one of us had done an axle swap. here are some shots from the install. all in all went pretty smooth.

Very nice! Looks like you got a diff cover too!

You swapped the front gears out too I take it?

Yea won't have to worry about that 30 on your 37's! What is the difference besides the factory locker on the rear 44

You never know what people will do sometimes.

ha ha, yea isn't that the truth.......by the way I'm looking for the electrical connectors for the rear locker, just want the plugs really, anyone who upgraded to ARB want to sell me theirs? I know you can buy the whole harness but it's like $80 and I'm really just after the connectors...

Looks great!! Nice way to spend the day working on the Jeep, but didn't see any pic's of the most important part ... .

Off topic, but what size lift and tires does that white jeep have?

Lift is 5 inches, or thereabouts, think he has a 4 inch with 1 inch coil puck. Tires are 37s

Ha, you're right......we were so exhausted didn't take pics of the suds and Giovanni's pizza.....good stuff and much needed at end of the day.....I'd like to check out your jeep sometime since you're in town

Yeah for sure, like to check out your rig as well. If you have it all put back together there is a Jeep run on June 1st in the Cedro peak area, a few of us are going to check it out. Link http://www.nm4w.org/calendar/?ev_id=144

thanks for the invite but I won't have four wheel drive again till next Tuesday when I get front gears in. I'll have to drive easy for a little till I get the gears broken in. Take a raincheck for now....I will definitely be up for a run after get gears broken in....
