Has anyone ever seen grinding like this on a carrier? It is in a 2012JKUR. Everything seems to be working fine. I only opened it p because I got water in the oil.

As others have said, your pinion is hitting the carrier. Loose nut, bad bearing, or not set up right.

That makes sense especially if he's running an aftermarket rear DS. That was my biggest fear in doing the install without a dial type torque wrench. Red lock tight and 165 ft lbs seemed to work fine for 20k miles. Then Eddie and Tony did the same when swapping my DS and another 20k miles with no issues.

It surprisingly takes a lot of pressure to over tighten the crush collar by hand, I used a 3/4” drive ratchet with a breaker bar to set preload on mine. I can see how people over tighten them with ugga-Dugga’s or under tighten them while pressing the yoke onto pinion though

Makes sense. I can see how under tightening would cause the OP's damage. Especially if not pressed in correctly. When I regarded the rear I spent thr extra $40 and went with a crush sleeve eliminator. My gear guy said if I have to swap a pinion just torque it to 200 for good measure, you don't have to worry...haha. Makes it nice for sure.
