Currie Currectlync Tie Rod Ends

My traction control lights started coming on during sweeping right turns the other day so while prepping for the New Year run, I got under the Jeep and began checking steering components... I believe one or both of my tie rod ends are shot.

Does anyone here (Bubba?) happen to know if they use standard ends I can pick up locally or if I have to order them? Sort of in a time crunch now. 😳

Your TREs may be shot but I doubt that’s the cause of your TC lights. I had the impression that those come on when the wheels are turning at abnormally different speeds. Maybe faulty ABS sensor(s)?

Yeah, I'll be checking those as well, but I started with the steering because I was concerned about the unit bearings.

I do. There was a code about the steering wheel angle, but I wanted to be sure that wasn't from the last time they my wheel wasn't straight and threw a code. I cleared it and haven't driven it on anything that triggers the issue since to verify.

Gah... Pulled the tie rod and the ends are loose, but not floppy. Not hearing or feeling the noise when I move them by hand. Guess I'll just put everything back together, make sure everything's torqued properly, and hope for the best. 🙄

When my son was moving the wheel back and forth for me, I could feel a clunk in the tie rod but the sound I was hearing was almost like needle bearings in a u-joint. When I spun everything by hand, I'm not hearing that noise... I'm at a loss right now.

Check your pitman arm. I had a similar clunk noise and couldn’t figure it out to save my life. Retorqued everything like 10 times and it was still there, ended up being the pitman arm nut was loose and was making what I can only describe as it looking like it was skipping a tooth but it wasn’t. It was just bouncing up and down as the wheel was being turned. Tightened it and no more clunk or movement.

I was having this issue and it turned out to be a bad rear wheel sensor. Mine happened during sweeping left turns. You only need to replace one at a time to see if that's whats causing the traction control to kick in. They're fairly easy to change in the rear and fairly inexpensive.

Thanks. I recently replaced my steering gear... Had to rent a torque wrench that went to to the spec. Like 250 ft lbs or some ungodly shit. I'll check to make sure it's not loose, but if it is I would be surprised.

Well, I put everything back together, tweaked the steering wheel a hair for good measure and went for a drive. The traction control still kicked in on the sweeping right turn but no codes were stored when I checked back at home.

Nothing feels squirrelly... I still hear the weird noises when I steer the wheel at a dead stop, but nothing when I'm moving, so maybe the hydro just stresses out something when stopped and it's complaining about it. I guess it's gonna be one of those things that I'll have to wait to get worse before I can find it.

If I have time, I'll pick up a speed sensor to have on hand.

Just slow down around the corner...haha. There is a freeway on ramp that I can take at speed and it will trigger the ESC. Hopefully it's all sorted out before Thurs.

Maybe dumb question, but are you talking Stability Control or Traction Control. Making a turn would activate SC and TC controls wheel spin correct?

Lol. Yeah, except it's never happened to me before on any on ramps or this roundabout corner.

Hopefully I'm just worrying about nothing. I tend to get hypersensitive before going out on the trail. 😂
