Clicking noise ?

Stock front driveshaft with Terraflex high angle rzeppa

A few weeks ago I noticed a clicking noise coming from under my Jeep

I crawled underneath and found that the front driveshaft boots were both torn

I repaired the the cv boot with the Terraflex high angle kit. Didn’t worry about the slip joint boot just greased it up

The noise happens in drive once I hit about 20 mph and 1500 rpm. It happens in 2wd. 4 high and 4 low. It also happens in neutral

Here is the strange thing. I put the Jeep up on jackstands at the frame and also again under the axles and can not duplicate the noise. It’s driving me crazy lol
I don’t know how to upload videos here but I held my phone underneath while driving and can see anything out of the ordinary.

I still have the dust plates behind my rotors and checked for rocks

Any ideas? No it’s not my grill causing the clickingIMG_4964.jpg

Clicking is either a u-joint or driveshaft. At 6" of lift, the factory driveshafts will fail. So will the Teraflex joint.

An Adams front driveshaft is next on my list

How can I check the front u-joints for failure ? I visually inspected them and moved the wheels up and down checking for play. Why wouldn’t the clicking show up while on jack stands?

My front failed here, was also making a clicking noise and bad vibrations at highway speeds.

Put your Jeep on stands, spin the drive shaft with your hand and look for any clicking noise / feel

I did exactly that today and couldn’t duplicate the clicking. I need to find a way to upload the video here

Like shown in the photo, look to see if the caps are slipping off. I'd really be leaning towards the driveshaft, though, because the u-joints tend to make noises when you're turning.

It may not be making noise on the stands because there isn't as much stress on the components... I'm no expert, I'm just going by my own experiences with this stuff. Maybe someone else will chime in who has more varied experience.

Also, I'm pretty sure that even the 4 door at 6" will stress out the rear shaft as well, so you should plan on getting both ASAP.

I will take a close look at the caps tomorrow

I have had the lift on for about 3 months. Only had issues with front boots tearing
Had it out wheeling 4 or 5 times since building and haven’t had any issues. Surprisingly the rear shaft isn’t at too bad of an angle

Huh... That almost sounds like something is slapping around under there. The clicking I was expecting would've been at slow speed and more "crunchy" sounding because it would either be needle or ball bearing noise.

Yeah it’s stumping me. Doesn’t start until I hit 25mph. Checked for anything flapping including all heat shield and nothing :(

To me it sounds like the factory front slip joint boot or clamp contacting the edge of the trans pan. You can try a couple things. Lay under your jeep and look for marks from whatever is hitting. Strap a friend (Overlander) to the underside of your jeep to watch while you drive it. [emoji16] Seriously though I noticed briefly some rotational marks on the front driveline in the video. Look for a clamp end or something that centrifugal force is causing contact somewhere.
