I know this is last minute, but this Saturday 2/22 we are running Holcomb Creek Trail and other trails as time allows. We are ending the day with a Suds & Grub up in Big Bear. I hope you can join us!
Here are the plans:

Meet up at Valero gas station in Running Springs at 9:30am:

At the end of the day we plan to do a small Suds & grub at Sizzler in Big Bear at 5PM. They serve Shock Top and Newcastle on tap.

This trail is rated difficult, and as such for this run we will require:
- 35” tires min.
- rocker guards
- tow points front and rear

We plan to explore other trails and sites in the area as time allows. Please post up if you are able to join us for the run or the Suds & Grub, or both :thumb:

You kids have a good time. :thumb: FOR NOW I'm missing the 35s or larger tires. Won't be for too much longer. ;)

Got to pass on this one. Plans for my granddaughter's birthday were in place before I saw this. No way I can do both with the party at my house starting at 1:00pm. Have a cool one for me and stay safe. Maybe next time?

Aw come on Tom … who is more important? :cheesy: Have a great time and we’ll catch up with you soon. :yup:

Just Another Day on Holcomb Creek Trail! ...or was it?

What a perfect day to be out on the trail...65 degrees, sunny blue skies...some great friends and a little excitement. What more could you ask for? Here are a few pics from our adventure...Enjoy! :yup:

Rays loves his new Dynatrac ProRock 60 up front and 80 in the rear...:D

Not a single part on Don's Jeep was harmed during this trip! :cheesy:

So a couple years ago we ran Holcomb Trail and Don broke a right rear upper control arm bracket on the rock garden. Since then there has been very little rain/snow up in Big Bear and the trail is definitely not as challenging as in previous years. I figured we would have a pretty uneventful day...Boy was I wrong.

For those of you who have not run this trail before, there is one section that is on an extremely narrow shelf road. With a steep mountain face on your right and a 25' drop into the creek on your left, there is very little room for a Jeep sporting a ProRock 80 in rear and 60 up front and is 86" wide. To safely get by this section you must hug the mountain face on your right... That's the PASSENGERS side RAY. :cheesy:

Anyway, here's what happens when you get a little too close...

We decided that it would be best to run Ray's winch line to the top of the hill and fasten it to a tree with a tree saver strap. Thanks to Moochie for making the dangerous climb he was able to find a tree strong enough to support the strap and weight of the Jeep. Next we decided it would be a good idea to hook up the winch line from Don's Jeep to the rear of Ray's Jeep for added support. Long story short, after about an intense hour, Ray was able to winch himself forward to safety. :wings:

I wish I had more pics but believe me; it was pretty intense. The whole time we spent trying to figure out what to do, Ray kept saying "I feel the Jeep slipping". We just told him not to worry and that it was all in his head . Truth be told, he was slipping and I don't think his Jeep could have held much longer before flopping. If you look closely at the pics of his Jeep above, you will notice the dirt building up on the inside of the tires.

Here's the tire tracks after Ray was safely past the cliff...

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful... We originally planned to head up to Butler Peek but discovered the trail was closed. :grayno:

The end of a great day!!!
