Best rear brakes to match front Mopar “Big Brake” kit

I’m looking to better balance my brake setup. I upgraded my brakes to the Mopar kit in the front, but have always thought it’s barely stopping me.

I have a lot of weight behind me with a beefed up Dana 44 front and Dana 60 rear, steel bumpers, 4” lift, 37’s, and 7.0L hemi swap.

I was going to order the Teraflex Delta part by part for the rears only, but they are worried the rear brakes will be way stronger than the front Mopar kit.

Should I suck it up and do all 4 wheels? Or does anyone have a suggestion for rears that would be more balanced?

Thanks

Matt

Teraflex has a big brake upgrade that you can get just for the rear. It’s basically a larger rotor with a bracket to move your stock caliper out. Teraflex has a bad reputation on this forum, but I can tell you I’ve been running their big brake kit front and rear for about 5 years and haven’t had any problems. There may be other rear only options available now, but choices were pretty limited when I upgraded.

EDIT: Now I see you have a Dana 60 rear. I have a 44, so never mind.

Rear brakes won't do a whole lot to help improve what you're feeling.

Did you make sure to do an ABS bleed after installing your new brake kit? This is something your dealership will be able to help you out with.

How severe is the Jeep nose diving now when you brake? Or is it pretty level and you just want faster braking?

Did you really put a hellaphant into your Jeep or is there a different 7.0 L Hemi that I don’t know about?

LOL - I totally glossed over that. Now I really wanna know

Also, upon closer examination, I see that the OP has a Dana 60. Assuming that's a UD60, the brakes on it are MASSIVE.

Good point. He might need to be upgrading his booster to a JK8.

Has a 44 up front. I would assume semi float 60 but could be wrong. The whole thing sounds fishy to me though. Has a hellaphant motor but wants to piece together a brake kit.

Conspiracy theories going strong here! Yes, I just joined.

Here is a photo of the hemi going in. It’s a 6.1 stroked out to 6.98L.

The rear axle in the photo was stock, but I had to replace it. The unfortunate thing about adding big horsepower is that you find out really quickly what can handle it.

First the 545RFE transmission disintegrated within about a couple blocks on the first real test drive. I put in a built unit from ATS Diesel that can handle up to 600 hp. The immediate test drive after that, the rear diff failed.

I bought a g2 rock jock 60 to replace it. Stock brakes remain.

PS- that’s not me in the photo

hehe......did you think you were going to be able to drive it with stock axles?...

I was hoping to upgrade the rear brakes to be somewhat in balance with the Mopar big brake kit up front. Maybe that’s still too light considering the weight I am lugging around?

The only reason I mentioned the teraflex delta kit is because this lets me keep the current 17” rims, but is the biggest rotor possible with a 4 piston caliper.

Any other suggestions?

That’s a beast of a driveline. If I missed it, I apologize, but did you update the TC? If not, it’s on borrowed time with that much HP.

I agree with AJ. At the level you are playing at, you’re going to need a 60/80 or 14 bolt FF axles. Any money you are throwing at those current axles is just going to be wasted when you destroy them.

I haven’t had any other issues with the drive line, but I will check into axles.

Wjtstudios- if you mean transfer case, it’s stock and definitely a weak point. I’m being very careful with it. No 4wd smoke shows! It’s held on for 3 years since the hemi install

Yeah the transfer case. Definitely using the HP on that set up in the rocks could chew it up. You can add an atlas to your build list. They are beasts!

I am running the Fusion 4x4 king pin front 60 and rear shaved 14 bolt. They have been bullet proof on the trails. They also come with the Chevy 1 ton brakes which will help your braking issues. You can also look into the dynatrac xd60/80 package. It’s very comparable. Slap a set of 40s on it and you’ve got a beast of a Jeep.

The other component that you should look into now is a JK8 brake booster. It has a larger diaphragm and Rez for these larger brake setups.
