Any very familiar with northern Michigan trails?

I'm looking to put on a decent weekend/extended weekend ride through northern Michigan, maybe even the UP. I think the trails in the dead of winter would be pretty cool. But I have no idea where to go. Or what trails are unable during the winter. I have a place in Grayling and that's about as far north as I've been since doing the whole jeep thing several years ago.

In interested in the same, I've done a lot of hunting in the UP but no trail riding and am also interested in finding places to play up north.....

I'm in northearn wi and haven't made it up to the u.p. in the jeep yet but the mvum maps of the national forest would be worth looking into. I'm guessing a lot of those roads and trails are not plowed in the winter. Which would probably make it pretty interesting with all the snow they get.

I've found a few trail in the national forest here in Wi with those maps.

And those maps tell you exactly where you can and cannot take a vehicle.

Call tony at baseline outfitters, I know he went to the u p and hit trails and Drummond island this past summer. He may be able to help you out. I'd love to go up there next summer and do something. My jeep is still a virgin

Ya I've looked at some on line maps always wondering what's open and not. I have been thinking of putting a run together up there somewhere in the spring.....

I'm game for it. Might do some scouting over Christmas break I have a week off from work. Was thinking about heading up and seeing what routes may be fun in the snow.

Where are you from? I've been looking to collect some info on local people so when there are some events or one of us puts together a run we all can be notified and invited.

U.P. Overland would be worth looking into for some local knowledge. Those guys put on an event up there in august every year.

I'm about an hour from three lakes. The nicolet national forest is right there. I'd like to do some more exploring in that area if you're over this way and looking for someone to run with let me know.

Ya for sure I know I will get up there and play and am looking to meet some N Michigan jeepers.....

I am just north of Ft. Wayne, In. About 30 minutes south of the state line. I used to go to the manastee nat forest area all the time with quads. That was about a 4 hour drive. With enough notice I can get about anywhere in Michigan, I love to spend time up there.

Well sounds like a fun run will be planned soon with guys from out of state even wanting to go that's great, after the holidays we need to plan it.....

Sounds great, let me know. My son will be home from college from Los Angeles for good in a couple weeks and I'm sure he'd come up with me

I think im headed up to grayling this weekend. Going to venture out from there and see what I can find.
Any of you been to Rocks and Valleys in Harrison? I really dig that place.

Is that close to grayling? My son and I camped and kayaked in the grayling area every year in August for at least 10 years

I am not affiliated w/ VVMapping in any way. I have used his maps on my GPSs for quite a few years and have found no others to work as well for me.

BTW:
ORV sticker required, $16.25 currently. Next year they go up in April.
"Trails" are for vehicles 50" or less in width. i.e. ATVs and dirt bikes.
"Routes" are for vehicles of all sizes.

Do you guys know if you still have to show the Michigan sportsman card to get your ORV sticker?
