On a recent trip down to Boulder City, Cindy and I thought it would be fun to do things a little differently and take a long cut there. Specifically, we decided to drive east across the state before turning south and while this was more of a road trip than anything, here are a few pics from the long cut we took.
Driving along the Loneliest Highway, otherwise known as US 50.
On our way out, we stopped to let Ripley burn off some of her never ending supply of Border Collie energy by going on a short hike around Grimes Point. Of course, this is always a great place to see some the oldest and really impressive petroglyphs in Nevada.
Shark in the water! Or, should I say, coming out of the ground? I don't think it has an official name but I always like to call this rock formation Jaws
It's always hard for us to make any trip across US 50 without making a stop at our favorite saloon - Middlegate Station!
It's 5 o'clock somewhere, right? CHEERS!
Time to hit the road again!
Wouldn't you know it - came across some traffic.
What can I say, the desert was calling and there was little we could do to not hit some dirt along the way.
Okay, truth be told, just like the Moon landing, all these pics were taken in a studio and I just moved things around.
Of course, our bounding bundle of fur needed to let off more steam and so, we stopped to go on another short hike. Here you can see just how thrilled she is.
But who can complain when you get out and enjoy the Northern Nevada desert.
It's a bummer that you can't actually check out the mill being that it's all on private property but this one out in Pioche looks like it'd be amazing to see up close.
And, before we lost our our sunlight, we decided to make another Ripley stop over at Cathedral Gorge.
As always, Ripley leading the way and showing us the way out.
The worst part about winter is that the days are so short and so but at least, we had a hell of a good time while it lasted.
