This past September I lost my father in-law and best friend suddenly of a heart attack.
Fishing with my boy just weeks before hep passed
He was the heart of the family and one wish he had was that we place his ashes on Keeney Point that overlooks the Northside unit in eastern Oregon he had hunted the area since he was a kid.
We packed up and left home Friday morning planning on stopping along the way at a few of Chubby Whubbies (that was my nickname for him) favorite places along the way.
First stop was Prineville Oregon Tastee Treat for burgers and drinks. We never drove through town without getting burgers.
This where the ladies continued on to our hotel for the night in John Day, While my brother inlaw, my son, and niece and nephew. went to fish one of Don's favorite rivers The John Day. Don had never gotten a chance to take my niece and nephew over fishing. Seeing that she has never caught a fish. I made it my goal Friday to get her a few fish.
The first stop for the day a great hole we always stop and is loaded with smaller smallmouth and a few bigger ones.
Mission Accomplished Ellie and her first fish. I find more joy out of seeing a kid catch fish then catching one myself.
We managed a few
after being chased off the water by some crazy lighting and weather we took the rough road back to the highway playing in the mud and rocks along the way. Seeing some of Oregon's amazing back country
We made it back to the hotel, we went for a swim then sat out on the porch smoked a cigar and were treated to an amazing sunset.
Saturday morning we started what for all of us was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do. We all piled in the Jeep the kids in the back and the rest of us crammed in my jeep We drove the rough rocky road to the top of Keeney Point were we would finaly place Chubby whubbies ashes
He sure has a nice view up there
after done on the point we drove down to his camping spot and made a little memorial for him
There were a lot of deer and even some elk seen as we traveled through the woods
one of the many beautiful spots along the way
it was a long and rough weekend but was awesome to spend the weekend with the entire family remembering old memories and making new ones.
