37's and 5.13 gears for 3.8

Caught the Bug
I''m getting set to make a big purchase for my 07 JKU (new axle) and I want to make sure I'm not going to make a costly mistake on gearing. Due to the ridiculously high prices shops charge in New Mexico to re-gear, I decided just to replace my axles. I picked up a second hand rubi rear axle with 5.13, e-locker, and chromoly shafts. For the front, I'm going with prorock 44 with 5.13 gears to match (and ARB locker) BUT I keep wondering if I'll be close in power to what I have now with 4.10 and 35s. On the highway, the 4.10s are very acceptable but offroad I've found it very lacking. I would like to hear from those who run 37s and 5.13 gears with a 3.8 (07-11) who do rock crawling at higher elevations (5000 ft and more). Are you happy with your setup? If you could do it again would you go 5.38? I know D60 would be the way to go but it's way out of my budget.

Just wanted to share first I'm too am from nm, and I run 5.13's with an auto locker which sounds similar to what ur going to do minus the shafts on my '08 jk Sahara. Honestly it's still gutless but in my opinion it feels torquier to me highway u will notice the difference just a warning :standingwave:

While I have the 3.6 a lot of friends have the 3.8. Don't go any deeper then 5:13. You will be just fine. With 35's normally 4:88's a good. With what you are running, 5:13 will be fine.

How did the front shafts work out for you?

thanks for the input. I've found that on the road actually the 4.10s with my 35s isn't some bad. When I bought superchips and corrected for tire size I found it acceptable. It's offroad, rockcrawling that I've found it really lacking and this is what I'm wondering about...

Thanks for the feedback Brian. I still have the shafts. Unfortunately the elocker I bought from someone got kinda damaged in shipping (horrible, horrible packing, dont know what they were thinking) so now I'm thinking on just going ARB route with the PR I'm getting. I'm nervous about using the elocker. The PR bearings are different as you probably know and if I chance it, I wouldn't be able to throw in an ARB later down the road. Where I'm at with my build is I just swapped out rear axles yesterday, so the rear is now good. The thread link here.

I was going to suggest maybe a Rubicon transfer case would help but it looks like youve already done that. Maybe a Rubicrawler might be the answer?

Running 5:13's in 2010 3.8 Rubi with e-Locker 44's & 37's. It was night and day for me compared to the 4:10's. I am also running a trail dash this helped with tranny shift points, Power settings, ect. If you want to meet up and check my rig out, we can sure do that. PM me when you get a chance.

I'm running 5.13's with 35's and loving them made a huge difference on and off road.

2011 JKU 3.5 R.E. Longarm lift.

thanks everyone, seems like I'll stick with 5.13s especially since I just swapped in a rear axle with that size gearing yesterday  I can't wait to get the locker wired up and hit the trails....

Glad to hear you're gonna stick with 5.13's. So long as you calibrate your speedo properly, you should find it to be a good ratio. 5.38 will leave you with a pinion that is just too small for a 44.
