2H light flickers, Serv 4WD warning…

burnt clutch

For the last couple of years, occasionally, I’d notice the 2H light in the cluster flicker, then eventually, “Serv 4WD, swaybar disconnect not available” come on.
Apparently, it’s most likely related to the transfer case position sensor and/or the harness.

I can’t seem to find a video about how to change this out. Any help?

My Jeep is a 2018 (JL) Rubicon, 6MT.
Thanks.

Yeah, metal debris gets in the locker position sensor and you have to replace them which are usually backordered. Just buy two of these, fix the one and keep the other in the Jeep for when the other one goes bad…

Also, you have to buy a set of 5 and figure out which one is the correct sensor by trying them one at a time until the warning message clears.

Everything I’ve read says it’s the transfer case. But you’re saying it’s the locker sensor? Sure seems like that’s a much easier fix, if that is the case. But I can’t make sense of what a locker sensor would have to do with transfer case issues?

Thanks, Mike.

Yeah, the elocker position sensor. I haven’t heard of people having this issue with the transfer case but there’s a lot of internet out there and possible a few people had trouble with it. For thr other tens of thousands of people with the same issue, it was the sensors in the diff because they aren’t potted and metal fragments get in and short circuit the sensor. In the beginning, Jeep was replacing the entire axle. Then a couple of years ago they came out with a sensor kit. Check your wires for wiggle, pay someone to scan it. Up to you. Report back.

Got it. Ok, thanks! 😊

the transfer case switch is on top of the transfer case, had to replace it on my 2010 JK, not difficult to get to with crowfoot wrench.

The switch is only about $30, cheap option and may be worth a try before investing in the Z-automotive locker bypass; I had the rear axle locked message when the rear axle sensor went out, luckily, I already had the Z-sensor and was able to get on my way quickly.

Thanks, Mike.

At least one person reported an issue which seemed like the transfer case position sensor.
