2014 WAYALIFE Kick-Off Run Highlights

There are few ways I can think of to kick off a new year than to head out into the Mojave Desert with all our good friends here on WAYALIFE! Although we did do this a week later than we had hoped, our first group run for 2014 would be one out to an area known as Crucero. This is a trip that starts off in Afton Canyon, heads east to the old town site of Crucero, turns south toward the Mesquite Hills and then crosses over the Broadwell Dry Lake before hooking back to pavement in the town of Ludlow. Along the way, we got ford two deep water crossings, took a hike up Spooky Canyon, paid our respects at a gravesite belonging to Delores Holland, attempted to decipher petroglyphs left behind by ancient inhabitants and paid a visit to the mysterious Mojave Megaphone. Below are a few shots that we took along the way and I hope you enjoy them.

Being that we were coming out from our home in Northern Nevada, we booked a room in Lenwood the night before and were fortunate enough to have a few friends come out early and party with us - CHEERS!!

The following morning, we met up with the rest of the gang over at the Flying J...

In all, I think we counted up 33 JK's, 2 TJ's, over 70 people and several dogs joining us for the day...

Heading out across I-15 and looking back, it was Jeeps as far as the eye can see...

Pulling off at Afton Canyon Rd. and airing down for the trail ahead...

Time to hit the dirt!

Right from the get go, there are two points along the Mojave Riverbed that actually have enough water where fording is required. Most of the time, it's deep enough were we've seen multiple vehicles hydrolock their motors...
main.php

Looks like this was one going to be one of the deeper years...
main.php

Of course, with a set of 40's, it wasn't too bad...
main.php

Next!! Being such a big group, I was only able to get a few shots of the rigs immediately behind us and here they are...

As you can see, the stock Jeeps were going deep...

Pulling up to the next water crossing...

Pulling up to our first stop of the day - Spooky Canyon!!

Grab your flashlights and let's go for a hike!!

The walls are closing in...

Everyone lending a helping hand in on the tougher climbs...

For the more adventurous, it's up, up and away to the top...

More pics below...

After our fun in the dark, it was time to head on out...
main.php

Our second stop was to take a group shot over at an old railroad bridge...

With as many Jeeps as we had, it was tough to get everyone in...
main.php

For the ones willing to get in front of the camera, here's a shot of them...
main.php

Further east, we pulled over along the Union Pacific Railroad track to pay a visit to Delores Holland, an infant that died and was buried here back in 1931...

Moving along, we headed south from the old town site of Crucero and made our next stop over at the Mesquite Springs, an old watering hole where the rock surrounding it contain petroglyphs left behind by inhabitants from a long time ago...
main.php

Heading up into the hills and trying our luck to decipher the cryptic inscriptions...

Moving just a bit more to the south, we made yet another stop over at the mysterious Mojave Megaphone...

Everyone had to stand really far back in order to get some of these shots...

Time to give away some swag! This one was compliments of our very own CanvasJK here on the forum - thanks Will!!

Our next giveaway was a hoodie and anyone who wanted it needed to work for it. Specifically, you needed to run back to your Jeep and bring back a tire repair kit!

And we have a WINNER!! Congratulations Panda!!

With the sun going down, we wrapped up the day with everyone just enjoying each others company...

No breaks and, I can't speak for anyone else but, runs like this typically go really well. Of course, it's all very planned out, the terrain is easy and we know the area well. I think everyone had a great time.

Yes! Epic run for us what a great weekend we'll never forget!
If anyone ever needs a tire repair kit fast let me know... :D

looked like a fun day.

We were bummed that you had to leave early but was glad that you could at least hang with us the day before.

Jealous! I've been wanting to get back to spooky canyon 

You really need to get your Jeep back so that you can go wheeling with us again.

I will carry one in my pocket just in case this contest ever happens again. I'm to lazy to run that far. Lol
