Wow - I've been wrestling with this question, having already done nearly everything I thought was needed turn a factory new JLUR into a very street-able, non-radical appearing daily driver that could handle any reasonably sane trails. Now that's what I've got - and it's proven even more capable...

The factory one I removed was one piece. I did have to compress the one piece filter I replaced it with to get it into the slot. but the pleats are folded accordian-style in the direction you have to squeeze it, and the rubber gasket allows this.

My decision was to get the WIX filter some of you recommended. About $12 with shipping. Fits perfectly and I think it will be just fine. NOTE TO OTHERS - whenever changing your filter be sure to look carefully at how the back and side edges seal against the filter. If you're not careful when...

It wasn't in reverse - he was drifting it backwards against the torque converter in first gear. The incline was steep enough that he could do that by letting off the brakes.
