    Decisions...decisions...engine swap?

Yup, go with the LS, no question. I've done a ton of motor swaps with v6 and v8 motors, and considered a diesel, but the weight always keeps me away. I'm currently converting the v6 in my son's 2007 JK 4 door to a 5.7 Hemi and auto trans from a Cherokee Overland that was wrecked with 50,000...

    On Board Air

Yup, get the ARB and you will be happy. An ARB found its way under my hood right after I took delivery of the Jeep.

    Hi Lift Jack

I've used mine three times in 37 years of wheeling, so as others have noted, not a high use item. I also carry a 5 ton bottle jack, but on at least one occasion, the bottle jack would not have worked. One of the taller jeeps on a run in Moab bent a drag link going over the Crack (not running a...

    Coil over - 1953 M38A1

Sorry for the late response. We ended up with a 93.5" wheelbase. We found that we need to add a rear sway bar, but not a big deal, as lots of options for a customer unit. Because of the lift, Tom Woods modified a CV driveshaft for a steeper angle so we don't bind under full articulation. As...

    Coil over - 1953 M38A1

I converted my son's 1978 CJ5 to 3 link front and 4 link rear last year with good results. I moved the front axle forward 4 inches and the rear axle back 6 inches for a better wheelbase, and 70mph on the highway is very stable. The only issue we have not addressed is that the Kings valving is...

CJ3A back in my shop after 19 years

I've wheeled a lot of CJs with the short wheelbase, and thought it was the only way to go. After wheeling my 2014 Rubicon unlimited at Moab for a week, I like the longer wheelbase. Stretching the frame to 100 inches should make the little CJ ride better on those leaf springs, and be a lot less...

CJ3A back in my shop after 19 years

About 25 years ago, four friends wanted flat fenders, and since they knew I had done a lot of customizing on Jeeps, they asked that I help build the jeeps and teach them how to fabricate, weld, paint and wire. For Jeep 1, I did everything with their help, Buick V6, 4 speed, power/tilt steering...

    CJ5, is it worth stretching??

I just finished a 3 link front 4 link rear conversion on a 78 cj5, moved the front axle forward 4.5 inches and the rear backwards 6 inches. Used 14 inch travel King coilovers. Took about 200 hours to complete the the conversion. Keeping the leaf springs would be difficult unless you plan...

    Rotopax Tailgate Location

I have 2 mounted on each side of my spare tire with 2 water packs, and I wouldn't Mount inside my jeep. When they get hot, they can burp out a little gas. I actually had one that got a tiny hole around the mount. Leaked about a cup of gas. Customer service was awesome, but would have made a...

    On Board Air or CO2

Went through the same process late last year. CO2 tank storage and the hassle of refilling became the deciding factors. ARB under the hood, and will be adding small air tank inside the frame to run air tools (mainly impact) in short bursts. Don't think it would run an air drill without...

The Crack on Golden Spike and Improbably Hill at night

Eddie's video got me motivated to get this video done so I could post it here. I forget how long a video takes to put together with music, intro, etc, and my video doesn't hold a candle to Eddie's... My wife, and mother of 2 of the drivers, took the video of the crack, so you get to hear all...

VIDEO - MOBY in MOAB : Gold Bar Rim Jeep Trail / IMPROBABLE HILL

after the crack, we had to fix the bent drag link, so we were pretty tired by Gold Bar Rim, so only one short video. All the wives wanted to sleep in the jeeps and finish after day break. The last time i did these trails was about 12 years ago on dirt bikes, so all we had were the gps tracks...

VIDEO - MOBY in MOAB : Gold Bar Rim Jeep Trail / IMPROBABLE HILL

Nope, we started at poison spyder along the river and because of the late start and damaged rigs, we didn't arrive there until the wee hours of the morning. We were thankful for 50 inch led light bars.

VIDEO - MOBY in MOAB : Gold Bar Rim Jeep Trail / IMPROBABLE HILL

Nice video! I hated that obstacle the first time, as a broken axle on one jeep, a bent drag link on another jeep and a late start put us climbing that at 3 am. All 5 wives were not happy that day, but no one died and all rigs made it back to the hotel, so i call that a successful day in Moab.
