I will make the point that there is much less to be enthusiastic of now than there used to be. How can one really be enthused about something with so many complex software and electronic controls? The core essence of the car/truck has changed a lot during my lifetime.

I have a laptop computer which is even older. It still worked a couple of years ago when I last turned it on. It also stored all of the user data in battery-backed RAM. While it does not use MS-DOS, Bill Gates wrote much of the software inside. It came with the BASIC language from Microsoft.

I see that it ran MS-DOS 2.11 and the user data was saved to battery backed RAM so if the battery died, the user data was lost. Regardless, this would have been a top of the line portable at the time.
