Crossing North America in a JK: My move to Alaska

On February 18th 2013, my wife and I decided we weren't happy here in what is quickly becoming the desert of Abilene Texas. I've been here for 6 years and in this short time I've watched the lakes and rivers dry up to almost non existence. Ready for a life change, we decided that we are still...

Has anyone ever drove through canada?

Well today I got my new wheels and tires on. 12.5 inches wide so they stick a couple inches past the fenders. I'm wondering now if its legal to drive like that in Canada :-/. If it matters, ill be going through Alberta, b.c., and Yukon. Thanks guys

    Duratracs: what is a 33??

So I'm going tomorrow to grab some new tires. I don't plan on investing the money to beef up my new jeep to handle 35's just yet, so I'm going with a set of 33's. I've been doing some research and decided on Duratracs. Mainly based on price vs a steady stream of positive reviews. I'm moving...

    Stock Gas Mileage

Hey guys I did a search and i might have just missed it, but I'm curious as to what normal gas mileage is for a stock 2013 sport unlimited should be. I looked online and it shows that it should be 16 in town and 21 on the highway. My commute to work is roughly 20 miles. I've got 3 stops along...

    Hi-lift jack = temp winch?

Well I need to get a winch for my new jeep but don't have the money to drop on that and a new bumper to go with it. Just wanted to know how effective hi lift jacks are when used laterally as a temporary winch. Is this something to consider if I'm not able to get a winch now?

I've done lost my mind and moving to Alaska!!! Oh and bought a new Jeep :)

I mentioned in another thread that I was making an absolute life change and moving from smack dab in the middle of Texas all the way north to Anchorage Alaska. I've lived here long enough to meet and establish a wonderful relationship with a beautiful woman who has now been my wife for 6 years...

    Fire.

I call my Jeep the Coop because when my chickens aren't roosted in their coop, they can usually be found roosted on mine. This morning my wife woke up and let the dogs out. She let them back in and my beagle jumped into bed. He started whining like he wanted to go out even though he came back...

    disconecting front drive shaft

Simple question. If someone broke a front drive shaft and couldn't afford to fix it right away, is the vehicle safe to drive in rear wheel? or could it cause damage to anything? of course i mean after removing the drive shaft and keeping it out of 4x4.

    Used truck axles?

I've heard of folks taking axles from old trucks rather than buying new. Is this a simple and viable option for someone who can't afford new? If so, are there popular models of trucks that people hunt for? Is an axle an axle as far as bolting on is concerned? And lastly, how much could someone...

    2012 trade in prices

Hey all. I was reading on the JK forum and a guy posted that the dealership had a Rubicon unlimited for 30k. They offered to pay off the 24k he owed on his 2012 and give him the Rubicon for $50 more a month. Basically he was wondering if it was a good deal or not. It got me thinking. I owe...

    Death Wobble question

OK Guys, I just inherited my sister inlaw's 96 Jeep Cherokee, and she told me she had issues with the front end shaking really bad when she drives on the highway. It doesn't do it all the time. in fact when she got it here, I took it out and drove it to 70 mph for a few miles and it drove...

    Dust..

You know... If I had it my way I wouldn't have so much dust in my jeep, but living down dirt roads it's damn sure a losing battle trying to keep it clean lol. Sometimes I think of getting it detailed but that would just be mean lol.

    "spot the mods"

Alright let's play a game called spot the mods. I don't have a ton of money and I found a picture of a jeep that I think looks realistic. If you would be so kind, try and guess the work it has done. Of course only what's visible. Lift, wheel/tire size and then supporting mods I might need. I'm...

    Million dollar idea?

Someone tell me of I'm onto a million dollar idea here, or if I've actually seen this, because I can't find it anywhere, although I swear I have... I'm thinking of a hose that you could attach to your a/c vent that would help the cold air reach you with the top down.. It sounds dumb and clunky...

    Bead lock wheels

Could someone explain Bead lock wheels to me? I understand they allow you to air down and prevent the tire from slipping off the wheel, but I was watching an installation video where the guy inserted a couple beads inside the tire and said they balance the wheel by finding the light spots. This...
