test the aux battery separate from the main - you basically have to remove it to get a proper voltage test

Have you read your codes? If not, do so. It seems the ESS fails if just about anything else electronic/CANBUS has issues.

ESS went out when I lost a wheel speed sensor, along with several other systems. Before you start throwing money at it, run it for codes.
