Now that your Death Wobles have been dealt with, it's time to chase down ordiinary wobbles and shimmies. This is when tire balancing and alignment (toe & castor) pay off. The internet lies. The only way castor and/or toe can triger the DW cycle is if something in the steering has play and/or...

    Electrcal issues

Try tightening the battery terminals before installing them. The factory terminals have a gap which you can see when looking at their bottom side. The gap widens over time, preventing the terminals from gripping the posts when you tighten them down. Take a pair of pliers and squeeze the...

If the front axle is 3.73 and the rear is 3.43, change the rear to 3.73. That will give you a better gear ratio. Better yet, change both to 4.10. 4.56 or 4.88. If you show us a photo of the diff cover, someone should be able to identify what axle housing you have.

DO NOT spend money or time on tires or alignments until AFTER you fix the DWs. Neither fix or cause DWs.

Clutch. Or how I learned to love the wrenching

Get the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch pack and if you plan to go off-road, the heavy flywheel. The heavy flywheel reduces stalling out in low speed lpw rpm situations. Get the Centerforce hydraulic throw out bearing. The OEM throwout bearing setup is noisy. Centerforce put a lot of money...

To beat a dead horse.....death wobble....

I'm not talking about "upgrading" the factory bolts to Grade 8 SAE bolts. I've yet to see properly torqued good condition factory bolts cause DWs, wallow out holes or any other kind of problems. I'm talking about undersized hardware, such as a 1/2" bolt in a 9/16" hole.

To beat a dead horse.....death wobble....

Primary causes of DWs are 1 Track Bar. Look for bad bushings, wallowed out holes, loose or worn or undersized hardware, weak or cracked brackets, bent track bar, weak track bar 2 Ball Joints. Worn, loose, wallowed out and/or cracked seats will allow movement that can turn into DWs. This includes...

Pacific Coast Highway to the Promised Land

I had to be winched as well and I've got lockers. That's where I broke my tire carrier. Had to Austin Powers my way off that obstacle three times. After breaking the tire carrier, I finally gave up and took a winch. From a Bronco, no less! He winched up first. I think the Gladiator that...
