RETIREMENT ROAD TOUR #1

The drive up along Hwy-89A follows Oak Creek Canyon and is a narrow twisting road with some beautiful scenery. The speed limit it 40 mph but there are always re-tards upset because drivers are doing 40 so they can actually enjoy the views. 🤬🤬

The final climb on to the rim.

I drove down these switchbacks one winter when there was a foot of snow and ice on the road. Good times.

When we originally planned this trip it was structured on doing some site-seeing along I-80 and arriving in Salt Lake City to participate in an event.

Unfortunately an old friend who lives in Payson recently informed me that he is not long for this world. That news changed our travel plans and we departed early and took I-40 across so we could visit him. We spent a couple days there and being so close to Scottsdale, we swung down to see family.

Usually I avoid the location of birth- especially in the summer. The Phoenix metro area is WAY too hot and has changed in ways I don’t enjoy.

We took my 83-yo mom to the Scottsdale Costco for supplies and picked up a couple of things for ourselves. 😉

Full disclosure- my Mom claimed the Tequila and the Angel’s Envy. 🤣

Tomorrow morning we head north.
Sorry to hear about your friend. Kudos for making time to spend with him. Looks like a good haul on essentials from Costco!
